RECORDING, REHEARSING and GIGGING

OKey, so after sweaty days in the studio we are almost halfway trough recording some new material that will be the beginnings of a new era in Painting Elephants life as a rock band! 😉

Might be able to give some teasers later, but at the moment the best way to keep updated would be to come down to the Old Queens head on Sunday the 4th of November.

A Personal Note – Henrietta

Good morning, starshine… the earth says hello!

– Willy Wonka

So… Hello I guess! I must say I’m a little bit exited to be writing to you for the first time! How amazing is Isabel at writing hey? So sorry if my choice of wording isn’t as intricate but I’ll try! 😉

The last couple of weeks we’ve been high on adrenaline from our extensive gigging! I really want to say a massive thank you to all of you who have come and supported us and sometimes shared both one or two night-buses home, I know, night-buses in London are….well let’s just leave it there! But yes, you have been amazing!

As we want to keep on giving great shows we have also been very busy rehearsing and recording henceforth you might not heard too much from us in a while… We are pretty exited about some of our new songs, and personally I’m head over heels in love with “Lullaby” which should give another fresh touch to our set!

This weekend I spent in Bournemouth, it was amazing! If you wonder if the picture above has anything to do with this trip you are correct my friend! Growing up by the sea and being the biggest lover of water I could not resist getting my feet wet! 🙂 So if you ever wonder about my lyrics and would like a taste of the saltiness, here’s a sample from “Mermaids”

You kept me closer in your dreams & I was turning upside down                                                                                                      In a moment I was lost & now I’m spinning round and round Come away with me you sing with every motion of the Melody Soon every beat is guiding me like billows rolling on the Sea

If you have visited our Tumbler(!?!) you might have seen some interesting captures of Alex with a bow?! If that doesn’t get you exited about coming along to our next gig I guess seeing Arvid in a “wife beater” should? Hihi! Hold on, did I really say we have a gig coming up?!

YEAP!

Our very own Swedish, wah-wah and delay, jewellery making, ebay-buying, Queen of Riffs and melodies: ISABEL is graduating! This means a busy period of exams etc… but also that she will have her final SHOWCASE! And this, my friend, is one to attend! We will be sharing stage with some other bands, there’ll be drinks and best of all – it’s in the hood, (Cr)Acton!

You are officially invited!

Okey, just wanted to share a last note and say goodbye! Below is an example of why TFL and tube rides can crack me up! “Like – thumbs up (y)”

some kind of normal motion EP

About a month ago we released a special & limited edition EP called “some kind of normal motion”. It’s got a new song on it called So Easy Now. It features a bonus track with that raw “Nile-meets-John Wayne” feel. It’s got Davide’s face all blurred up and blue on the front. Totally rad. And it’s so special & limited you can only get it from one of us in person at the next PE gig.

See you at the Good Ship?                                                                                    http://www.facebook.com/events/144382879000994/

The Paranoid Elephant

Hello and welcome,

today I’m going to give you an insight into the mind and life of a very special and talented woman: Ginger Spice A.K.A, The Northern-Irish Elephant A.K.A, Alexandrika A.K.A, Vanilla Ginger A.K.A:

Alex Malseed.

Like many other young northern Irish trust fund kids her age she likes her well done fillet-steak with bearnaise sauce and her fluffy kittens to stay kittens forever. She dislikes puffy eyes and uncooked carrot cake. She identifies herself with Nancy Callahan, because she’s sexy and misunderstood. But unlike most girls her age she is a very ambitious bass player with a love for transcribing and sight reading, that dreams of playing for Beyoncé one day.

Contrary to popular belief she doesn’t shit out money. She is however a very creative being with a special love for painting expressionistic faces and colours. She carries a book around in her bass case that she calls the “Alex Real Book”, that consists of music sheets of transcribed pop songs, Victor Wooten slap solos and jazz standards. When she writes music she prefers to write in a genre she created herself, like the innovator that she is, called junk, fink or fip-fop.

On first glance this tiny pale ginger woman is a seemingly chilled out and laid back nerd, but don’t be fooled by this front, she’s actually a total nutcase. She says one of her greatest powers, aside from her talent for making ice cream cake, is in fact her ability to put on an innocent and sane exterior. In truth she is paranoid, indecisive, scared of the dark, scared of traffic, scared of spiders, dissonant, complex and scared of not being complex enough. She is a chromatic aberration, much like her bass playing. Even when crazy Alex seems to be resting you can always sense the madness in her awkward and abnormal bass-lines. Strangely enough it’s because of this hidden deviating personality that she fits in the band so perfectly and the reason we adore her with a deep, often rapturous love.

Soundtrack to Alex’s life:

Queens of the Stone Age – Into the fade

Death from above 1979 – You’re a Woman I’m a Machine

Beady Belle – Tranquil Flight

Mama’s Gun – Ain’t Your Life a Bitch

Air – All I Need

hugs

Writing, Recording, Gigging, Rehearsing, Eating

Even though the blog’s been quiet for some time now, the Elephants have been busier than ever. We’ve had a very loud autumn with lots o’ gigs and plenty rehearsal times. New songs are currently being formed and old ones are being polished.

We also got this new fancy look on stage, sorta cool jazz people at a 1920s afterparty with a rock’n’roll vibe, but apparently when the Arvid was doing the “pleaseplease join our mailing list” round people thought he was in fact a waiter and asked for drinks. The Arvid was a little upset. We thinks he looks smashing. Especially with that nice big sexy guitar hanging off his shoulder.

Now take care of yourselves and check out this live video of bringdown @The George Tavern.

2nd of October – 6 boobs are better than 2

On an average gig day Henrietta will always be painting her nails.

Davide will tune his drums.

Someone brings the obligatory muffins.

And Arvid irons his t-shirt.

Davide will be exceptionally bubbly and happy.

These awesome guys will help us carry shit.

We’ll be waiting for the bus.

The ladies will look hot.

Alex will get really hungry right before the gig and sneak a Morrisons sandwich into the pub.

And then we rock.

And we rock some more. (You have no idea how sweaty it gets.)

6 boobs are better than 2.

We love you,

(and we especially love Sanai Group)
