Hello and welcome,
today I’m going to give you an insight into the mind and life of a very special and talented woman: Ginger Spice A.K.A, The Northern-Irish Elephant A.K.A, Alexandrika A.K.A, Vanilla Ginger A.K.A:
Alex Malseed.
Like many other young northern Irish trust fund kids her age she likes her well done fillet-steak with bearnaise sauce and her fluffy kittens to stay kittens forever. She dislikes puffy eyes and uncooked carrot cake. She identifies herself with Nancy Callahan, because she’s sexy and misunderstood. But unlike most girls her age she is a very ambitious bass player with a love for transcribing and sight reading, that dreams of playing for Beyoncé one day.
Contrary to popular belief she doesn’t shit out money. She is however a very creative being with a special love for painting expressionistic faces and colours. She carries a book around in her bass case that she calls the “Alex Real Book”, that consists of music sheets of transcribed pop songs, Victor Wooten slap solos and jazz standards. When she writes music she prefers to write in a genre she created herself, like the innovator that she is, called junk, fink or fip-fop.
On first glance this tiny pale ginger woman is a seemingly chilled out and laid back nerd, but don’t be fooled by this front, she’s actually a total nutcase. She says one of her greatest powers, aside from her talent for making ice cream cake, is in fact her ability to put on an innocent and sane exterior. In truth she is paranoid, indecisive, scared of the dark, scared of traffic, scared of spiders, dissonant, complex and scared of not being complex enough. She is a chromatic aberration, much like her bass playing. Even when crazy Alex seems to be resting you can always sense the madness in her awkward and abnormal bass-lines. Strangely enough it’s because of this hidden deviating personality that she fits in the band so perfectly and the reason we adore her with a deep, often rapturous love.
Soundtrack to Alex’s life:
Queens of the Stone Age – Into the fade
Death from above 1979 – You’re a Woman I’m a Machine
Beady Belle – Tranquil Flight
Mama’s Gun – Ain’t Your Life a Bitch
Air – All I Need
